Colpitts World Travel is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its European operation. The US-based company, founded in 1890, opened its Edinburgh-based Europe headquarters in 1995 as part of a strategic decision to globally expand the business.
From humble beginnings with a small office on the outskirts of Edinburgh Airport, Colpitts has flourished into an operation employing 40 people across the United Kingdom. In 2008, the company relocated to Melville Street in the Scottish capital’s West End and three years later opened a second office in Aberdeen. Over these past two decades, Colpitts’ business has grown and diversified from corporate travel to offering a complete travel management solution that includes groups, events, and visa applications. The European team also has a strong focus in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, specialising in the management of clinical trial patient travel. Its Aberdeen operation has also built a loyal reputation amongst clients within the oil and gas sector. As a founding member of the Edinburgh Airport Forum, Colpitts has been at the forefront of economic initiatives to benefit the business traveller and corporate client in Scotland.
Ian Scholes, Director of European Operations, joined the business in 2011 and is excited about the organisation’s future: “I am proud to be leading the European team. In a short span of time, a relatively small family business has become a well-recognised brand serving a global market. A special thanks goes to all of our customers and we look forward to working with you for the next twenty years.”
The company’s corporate headquarters remain based in Boston, Massachusetts where it began trading over a century ago. Alan Krensky, the President and owner of Colpitts said of this milestone “I couldn’t be more proud of our European operations, the team have worked hard and the success of the last 20 years is a testament to their efforts.”
