In today’s modern world we are used to having everything at our finger tips. We look at 10 travel apps essential to the busy business traveller.

1. Tripit
This app allows you to keep your travel plans in one place and access your itineraries anytime, on any device. You can forward your hotel, airline, car rental and even restaurant confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com to create an instant itinerary. These can be accessed offline and you will even get directions to each destination.

2. Gate Guru
The only travel app that provides all of the flight and airport information you need to manage your entire date of travel. This provides you with real-time flight status and push notifications along with airport content specifically customised for your itinerary.

3. Perfect World Clock
This is the perfect travel app for business travellers who are working with people in different time zones. It allows you to keep track of different time zones and it’s free!

4. Wi-Fi Finder
With some hotels still charging exorbitant rates for Wi-Fi, this is the perfect app to find free Wi-Fi quickly and easily. Using the GPS function on your phone this app will tell you exactly where the closest Wi-Fi hotspot is and how to get there. You can filter by location type (restaurant, café, hotel etc.) and what’s more is you can download all of the locations offline so that you can stay connected when you’re on the road.

5. iTranslate
Using state of the art technology this app allows you to translate words, phrases and text in over 90 languages in seconds. On the premium version there is a voice input feature where once you start speaking, the app recognises your voice and transforms it into text, translating it into another language.

6. XE Currency
This app allows you to convert every world currency and offers live proprietary currency rates which refreshes every minute and allows you to calculate prices with the currency converter. It works without connectivity which means you can use it on the go when you don’t have Wi-Fi.

7. Citymapper
Making everyday transportation in large cities much simpler, Citymapper has reinvented A to B journey planning. Simply pop in your starting point and your destination and Citymapper will list several journey options along with the total journey time; this will also include real time information on all modes of transport where available (including next departure, platform no. etc.). Currently available for London, Manchester Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Rome, Berlin, Hamburg, New York City, Washington DC, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and Mexico City. The makers promise more cities are coming soon.

8. Expensify
Expensify helps you pull together your expense report quickly. It captures receipts, tracking time or mileage, business travel and creates expense reports quickly and easily. Use the app to take a picture of your receipt and then select which report that expense goes on to. The technology reads the receipts and creates the expense eliminating any manual entry.

9. Onavo
Onavo Extend helps you save mobile data so you don’t get hit with big data roaming charges. Once the app is installed it works in the background to drastically reduce the amount of data required to perform everyday tasks such as checking emails or using social media.

10. Travel Safe
This app will help you make emergency calls and texts anywhere in the world using a location-sensitive emergency database. Travel Safe promises lightning-quick access to emergency services like police, fire and ambulance as well as to your parents, partner all on one single screen.
